In PEOPLE’s exclusive sneak peek at Wednesday’s episode ofMarried at First Sight, Dr. Pia Holec, a psychologist and sex therapist on the show, asks Brennan if he is “holding back” from being “fully honest” to protect his wife’s feelings after a rocky start to their marriage.

Dr. Pia immediately notes the change in Emily’s mannerisms, saying, “So, I’m noticing your body language and your eye movements as he’s saying that…”
“That’s just her,” Brennan quickly clarifies.
Dr. Pia once again attempts to discuss Emily’s body language, asking, “But, there’s something behind that. So when you’re squinting your eyes and looking like that, what does that mean?”
When Brennan tells his wife to “explain,” Dr. Pia reiterates that she’d like to directly speak to Emily but he continues to interrupt.
She finally says, “Let me talk to her. Brennan, I’m talking to Emily.”

However, he won’t back down. “I’m just helping," he claims. “This is a lot, right, so I’m just gonna help her take a step back.”
“She doesn’t need your help though,” responds Dr. Pia.
“This is my wife, so I’m just gonna make sure she’s okay,” he says as Dr. Pia hits back, “That’s my job is to ask her if she’s okay.”
