Last calendar week we learned that X ’s Project Wing ( formerly Google ) and Chipotle would shortly be testingburrito - pitch dronesat Virginia Tech . Well , theRoanoke Timeshas the first photos and telecasting of what appear to be tests in nearby Blacksburg , Virginia .
“ I can confirm that we ’ve pop screen in Blacksburg , ” X ’s communication manager Jacquelyn Miller told me over email . But she could n’t annotate on the specifics of the television . Chipotle also corroborate over email that they were call for in the tests .
The drone for sure search like to the ones that have been test over the retiring year in Australia and have used a winch to deliver packages . But it ’s hard to gauge from this distance just how many burritos you could carry into one pack .

The Roanoke Times descry the tests yesterday and just posted the picture today . They explained that the entire process seemed a bitanticlimactic :

A woman with a clipboard walked over somewhat unceremoniously , edit the strand and carried the software system back to a staging orbit where tryout topic watched from behind a rubber net .
The process was repeated about 10 times in a 30 - minute twosome during a menses on Monday . Sometimes , multiple orders were brought in at the same meter on two separate drone flying near each other .
