A Delta Airlines pilot’s speech that went viral online has viewers butting heads about whether it’s appropriate or odd.
“Today I get to serve as the captain of the ship… What does that mean?,” he can be heard asking the captive audience. “It means I’m responsible for the safety of my ship, my crew, my passengers, my cargo, but above all, the rules.”

Commenters quickly reacted to his stoic demeanor in the clip, which the posters had captioned with the question: “Is he going for a flight or to war?"
Another reacted, “Total cringe. I bet he’s fun at parties.”
However, several others praised the captain for his words, including one person who commented, “This is the energy I expect from all the Captains I fly with.”
Another wrote, “Yeah! Love this….no one will get away with nonsense behavior on this flight.”
One person also responded directly to the Instagram users' caption, saying, “I love this Captain. As a former Delta F/A, I loved that we had so many pilots that came out of the US Air Force. They may not have the best bedside manner, but they are qualified!”
Delta did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
