One complaint that viewers have about Arrow is it ’s more of a soap opera than an action at law series . We ’re going to embrace the soap in this instalment , and rate Arrow ’s many human relationship from most to least functional . amazingly , Deathstroke has just fostered the most functional relationship of the show by far .
“ Betrayal ” is the variety of transitional sequence that every show needs when it has to make a difficult emotional turn . It ’s igniter on villainy and heavy on talk . That get it knotty to review , since it ’s a lot of short scenes with the great unwashed slowly adjust to a new emotional world . So or else of stick with the plot of land , we ’ll go with the many relationships and why most of them are a jar of assorted nuts shaken out over a fruitcake factory by a insane hatter during a full moonlight . To build drama , we will take the relationships from the least nutty on up .
Deathstroke and Ollie

He wave a giant sword , and tell Ollie that it wo n’t injure . Given that he could have drink down Ollie in his sleep , I call back this is needlessly sadistic , until Ollie unwrap his wrist joint to free himself and land a punch . Apparently it was a tryout , as the guy express mirth and says he ’ll train Ollie , but will still down Ollie if he needs to . He introduce himself as Slade Wilson — the existent DC Comics Deathstroke . I have to say , good one , Arrow . You got me . When Ollie points out that Slade needs him as much as he needs Slade I realize that this is , by far , Arrow ’s most operable relationship . It ’s not a happy relationship , but both side are honest , have a common goal , and behave in manner that make sense both to us and to them . Now let ’s wade into some softheaded .
Thea , Anastasia , and world
Thea is beginning to go at Laurel ’s law house as an houseman , and manifestly strategically making sure she wo n’t get asked back after her court of law - order time is over . She complains about how many hours she has to make for for receive mellow and driving . She whines that she ’s not an houseman , she ’s a “ court - ordered hard worker . ” Thea , you splendiferous brat , I have been your mavin since the beginning , but that matter on top of your neck is not a hair conveyance system of rules . Use your braincase . A Modern attorney hears her . astonishingly , this does not lead to a frozen moment of awkwardness only ended by a merciful uppercut to Thea ’s jaw . Laurel explain that the lawyer , Anastasia , is on a pro - bono sabbatical from her law firm . Anastasia , who it appears volunteered to work there , complains about her lack of salary and then tells Laurel that this drug - run , human - traffic gang leader , Cyrus Vanch , get out on a triviality with such a perky attitude that it seems like the news show in reality lighten her day . As you’re able to see , Thea and Anastasia have the form of relationship with reality that a dispatch - and - run number one wood has to the dupe they left bleeding by the side of the road . Quentin and Laurel
When last we saw Quentin , he had bugged Laurel ’s Hoodphone and was waiting for her to call the Hood again . This leads to no arrests , but to a destiny of scrap between Laurel and Quentin . More importantly it leads to Vanch find out through police middleman that Laurel is important to the Hood and kidnapping her . There ’s a good moment when Quentin protests that no one but him and the guy who engraft the bug know about Laurel and the Hood — and then realizes that now the intact precinct know . later on , after he and Ollie have teamed up and rescued Laurel — and after Ollie has actively prevented Quentin from wipe out Vanch — there is more fighting . There ’s a lot of “ you dwell , ” “ you shop me , ” and “ you manipulated me ” issue forth from both sides , but neither one of them actually talks about the real problems , one being that Laurel is only too happy to utilise her daddy — sometimes in ways that compromise his job — but refuses to abide by that he does his job . The other being that Quentin did something mute because he was mad and put Laurel in awful danger . But no , lying is more significant .
Ollie , Laurel , and Tommy
I do n’t even know what ’s go on here . For one , when Ollie and Laurel are ambush by the police at the rendezvous web site , he adopt her as a hostage / human shield , and at no point do either of them represent like that was a problem . In fact , they ’re both mad at Quentin for “ putting Laurel in danger . ” wait at that logical system is like watching Wile E. Coyote race out over a cliff and not drop as long as he does n’t look down — only he never looks down and makes it to the other side . It not only break realness , it dampen the established conventions of unreality as well .
Meanwhile when Tommy hear about the police ambuscade , his primary business concern is that Laurel did n’t distinguish him about meeting with the vigilance man . I wanted for her to set in motion into a Michael Corleone “ never ask me about my business ” rant , or at least take him to task for not being worried about her life , but no . Lying is still the bad thing . When Tommy , distraught , name that he thinks Laurel might have a crush on the hood to Ollie , I mean the show actually begins corrode itself . Fortunately , the fact that Laurel was nearly killed by a mobster seems to readjust the relationships , with Ollie stepping back and Tommy and Laurel back together .
Digg and Ollie
This family relationship should not be this disturbed , and to be middling , Digg keeps it on an even keel . When he hear that Moira also had a Book Of Evil , he suggests she ’s a suspect , discretely monitors her , and come up with a pink conversation in which she reveals that she ’s convoluted with jeopardize people to get them involved with a “ program ” and that she knows that Ollie ’s boat was sabotaged .
Ollie is the nutty one , and he dish out it out with a soup ladle . At every item during their multiple conversations , he denies that Moira is anything but an innocent flower , and he does it with the kind of shaking , twitching saturation that take a crap his face calculate like a decapitated bull ’s head being electrocuted as part of eighteenth C manifestation of galvanisation . in earnest , his reflexion is threatening in a purely animal way , and with an eerie , undead menace . This alone would n’t be enough to make the family relationship that batty , but Ollie ’s relationship with Moira has been slaloming between Hamlet and two different Greek myths ever since the show started . When he warns Digg away from his mother he looks every bit as deranged as he did at the get-go of the series .

And here we are at the top of the mountain . Everything about this relationship has always been as crazy as a March hare with bat backstage spring out of a cuckoo clock . The fact that Moira had him rack to protect him in the first sequence . The fact that they both seem to be forced to memorise about each other ’s actual or imagine sex lives . The fact that they ’re arch - enemies who pose for Christmas add-in together . It all adds to a heap of madness . But who jazz a little suspicion would make it crazier ?
