Today , via a conversation with some friends on Twitter , I discovered something that might , to the most serious She - Ra stans out there , be old word , but is raw to me , and that dead deserves to be talked about . It ’s this : Noelle Stevension has a serial of playlists on Spotify devoted to the most important starring characters ofShe - Ra and the Princesses of Power .
My friend , the good part ? These playlistsare world . And they are incredible . They paint a profound and vastly entertaining subtextual portrayal of She - Ra as a story about a lot of sorry , angry teen getting together and breaking up and holding onto the few friendly relationship that last through the melodramatic chaos of it all . It ’s She - Ra as high school social inner circle , and it both uncovers the excited depth behind the excellent eccentric moral force that are the core of the show while also making them bet just delightfully overwrought .

accord to Spotify , all these play list are middling new , though they often reflect the graphic symbol as archetype , and seem less tied to their arc in any particular season . They still reveal a hatful about the characters . Also , they ’re immensely entertaining . Let ’s go .
Bow
Let ’s start with Bow , She - Ra ’s courteous boy . Bow and Glimmer both have inadequate play list , liken to other characters ; Bow ’s clocks in at just eight songs , a scant half hr of medicine . And it ’s … well , it ’s overnice . In a man of drama and danger , Bow is the sway on which the Friendship Squad rests . Sure , he has his own problems , but his proficient sunniness and electropositive demeanour keep his friends going .
And his playlist reflects that . It ’s just … skillful . Every other playlist on this tilt is full of drama and rebelliousness , but Bow ’s is just endearing . Beginning with a soft , heartfelt Of Monsters and Men song about charge and friendship , it continues in that vein . Bow ’s a good boy . Bow loves his friends . Just do n’t ask him about his parents when he ’s in a tough mood .
Glimmer
Now we ’re talking . Glimmer ’s play list is as merry as it is moody , as noncompliant as it is insecure . Full of odes to impostor syndrome and telling your parent to go to hell ( heck , I suppose , this is a kid ’s show after all ) , this playlist is Glimmer as a powerful young magical heroine who does n’t do it how to make Quaker or canalise her military strength or get out of the apparition of her worried female parent and the loss of her father . In light , it ’s season one Glimmer , but it ’s also Glimmer as magnanimous original : yearning and overwhelmed and possibly a little power hungry ?
Like , this is a play list that start with “ Master Pretender ” by First Aid Kit , a genuinely sadsack song about release and not feeling like you ’re good enough , before moving unashamedly into tracks like “ all good girls go to hell ” by Billie Eilish and Lorde ’s screening of “ Everybody desire to Rule the mankind . ” Is Glimmer a Heron , or is she the teen who ’s cabbage out of their parents ’ window to go look ominous with her friends in a parking lot somewhere on the edge of town ? The solution is , of course , she ’s both . That ’s why we roll in the hay her .
Scorpia
Scorpia is awonderful , complicated characterwho deserve well than she gets . The only mortal prove to be Catra ’s booster after everything she ’s done , Scorpia finds herself catch in a bad situation and her character bow has been her slow fruition of just how much better she deserves .

True to organise , then , Scorpia ’s play list is about getting over a toxic relationship . With classical post - breakup anthems like “ Dancing On My Own , ” this is a play list about breaking up , moving on , and see at the wreckage . Like , the subtext here is not elusive . Three out of the twelve songs on this playlist , a full one 4th , are from Fleetwood Mac ’s Rumors . You know , an record album about how the whole band was in a series of terrible toxic love life affairs with each other . Noelle Stevenson knows what she ’s doing .
Adora
Okay , now that we ’ve gotten to the main dyad , the drama quotient of these playlists , each pretty extended , increases twentyfold . If there ’s one thing to learn about the graphic symbol of She - Ra from this play list , it ’s that Adora and Catra are the liberal drama pansy in Etheria . Adora ’s play list ? It ’s about the dramatic play of trying really really surd .
While there are absolutely tinge of Catradora angst in this playlist , it ’s mostly focused on go on , growing up , and trying to be the best you may be . And trying . And trying . And essay again . near every song is about living up to the expectation of others , about trying until you die and then mayhap also trying some more . It ’s potential Adora has a savior building complex . It ’s also possible girl needs a holiday .
Particular call out to the choice of “ A Better Son / Daughter ” , a ( beautiful ) anthem of such self - soft gloominess in the nerve of hard knocks that its inclusion body here can only be described as an own . But is Adora embarassed ? No , she ’s too busybodied stress to make unnecessary Etheria . You probably would n’t realize .
Catra
Oh , man . If Adora ’s play list is a fleck of a loving own , thenCatra’splaylist is , in the words of the friend who inspired me to write this blog , a character blackwash . And I mean that in the best way . Catra ’s play list is nothing more or less than the most dramatically Chaotic Evil lesbian breakup playlist in the human race .
This is a playlist that get down with “ I omit You ” by blink-182 before seguing straight into “ Look What You Made Me Do ” by Taylor Swift , a two - Song dynasty progression that deftly explain Catra ’s relationship with Adora as a simple progression from “ I require you back ” to “ So that ’s why I ’m conk out to off you . ” And that ’s not even the only blink-182 song on this play list .
This playlist also include “ No Children ” by the Mountain Goats , a famous bibulous ode to divorce , execution , and burn the entire planet down if you have to , and “ ache ” by Nine Inch Nails . It ’s extra , is what I ’m tell .
Together , these play list paint the portrayal of a dysfunctional , thirsty , angry , defiant chemical group of friends and enemies who are , for everything else they are , absolutely improbably angsty teen . They all also really seem to get it on Lorde , which has me fantasise about She - Ra going full One Tree Hill and boast a novelize Lorde concert where she ’s , like , a goth lizard princess or something .
Oh , and then there ’s Bow . Bow ’s honestly doing somewhat skilful . If you ’re in Etheria and you have problem , mayhap go tattle to Bow .
