When I think aboutThe Karate Kidfranchise , two songs immediately fall to mind : “ You ’re the Best ” by Joe Esposito and “ Glory of Love ” by Peter Cetera . The former , famously used at the conclusion of the original moving-picture show , did n’t seem on the Netflix showCobra Kaiuntil its terminal episode , a decisionvery carefully and specially made by its creators . The latter , the love paper fromThe Karate Kid Part II , was mistily alluded to on the show but never used . However , it turn out the team filmed a vista for the Song dynasty , it just did n’t make the last cut .

One of the show ’s creators , Jon Hurwitz , recently did a Q&A on Xand was asked why “ Glory of Love , ” a song so closely connect withKarate tiddler , was never used on the show . “ We actually filmed a cheerio scene betweenDaniel and Kumiko in time of year threethat had them dumb dancing to ‘ Glory of Love , ' ” Hurwitz say . “ It was really sugared and one of my favorite scene that did n’t make a final cutting off . ”

For context , season three ofCobra Kaisaw Daniel LaRusso ( Ralph Macchio ) turn back to Okinawa , Japan where the account ofThe Karate Kid Part IItook place . There , he reconnected with his love interest group from the film , Kumiko ( Tamlyn Tomita ) , though it was mostly platonic . “ At the end of the day , it feel a short too intimate moot Daniel is a happily married humanity , ” Hurwitz continued . “ It also did n’t avail that the call was expensive and the installment was running long . find like an unnecessary beat for the plot line that could cause unwilled chronicle complications . ”

The Glory of Love wasn’t in the cards for Daniel and Kumiko.

So there you have it . “ Glory of Love ” by Peter Cetera ( and magnificently covered by New Found Glory ) was go to be inCobra Kaibut fate just did n’t warrant it . But they tried . They always tried . It ’s one of a very , very few obvious callbacksthe team behind the show did n’t end up making — and basically every clock time that happened , it was the right call . Plus , in its place , we got an even betterKarate Kid Part IItribute with four season of Chozen , played by Yuji Okumoto , which was brilliant on its own .

Cobra Kaiisnow streaming in full on Netflix . If you have n’t watched it , it ’ll make you feel like this song does :
