It ’s been hours — hours!—since Apple and Beats announced they would be wed the fiscal knot , and today , we ’re getting a revamped version of measure ’ most popular headphone . The Solo was a winner , and so the new Solo2 does n’t mess with the formula much .
The Solo2 mutant an identical folding , on - ear pattern to the older model . The tush clamp firmly on your ears compared to other on - ear , but the angled cups do a comely line of distributing some of that forcefulness so they do n’t pinch . They ’ve got that same charge plate innovation with the iconic “ b ” slapped on the side .
As a far as I can tell , the main dispute between the new model and the older one is that their tuning has purportedly been redesign to address the wide criticized bass - hard sound profile of Beats product in general . While I do n’t have a pair of the older model handy , I can compare the Solo2s to my well - broken - in Sennheiser Momentums and the Solo2s definitely still slant towards very knock-down bass voice , though , not to the point of whole obfuscating mids and high . These pot are still right smart better accommodate to blasting hip hops than to , say , 90 ’s alternative where you ’d desire a little more lucidity .
I have n’t had the chance to fully evaluate the Solo2s , but I can say for sure thatSennheiser Momentum on - earsandV - Moda ’s XSheadphones are more comfortable , better built , and give rise more accurate sound . All three earpiece cost $ 200 a piece .
Although the Solo2 cans were plainly designed before Apple could wield any influence , it ’s punishing at this point not to see the reboot in illumination of Cupertino ’s pattern strategy that skew towards cautious iteration with success . Consider that winning earpiece designs often last for a propagation ; it took Sennheiser 30 years torefreshits disc jockey headphones . The modifications to the Beats Solo seem really underage , and producing the new modeling really do the use of trotting them out in front of consumer again for another look .
