To help celebrateMonopoly ’s eightieth birthday , Hasbro invite fans of the biz in the U.S. , and all over the world , to vote and choose their favorite cities to be included as holding spaces on the new Monopoly Here & Now versions of the secret plan . Some four million people voted , and for the U.S. interpretation of the game , Pierre , South Dakota , will now occupy the coveted space where Boardwalk is usually found .
On the World Edition version of Monopoly Here & Now , Lima , Peru , was able to rally its citizens and lover to cast enough votes to place that capital metropolis on the board ’s top blank space . And while both versions of the plot have external mega - metropolis like New York , Los Angeles , Hong Kong , and London , there are a handful of little cities that were amazingly voted in as well .

When available sometime this fall , the rename spaces wo n’t be the only thing different about Monopoly Here & Now . The game will actually be played slightly other than , with player attempt to confab as many of the spaces on the board as potential , collect stamps on a pass along the way . The spaces will actually serve as tourist finish , with property owner collecting money as other player stop by for a visit , although the rest of the game will utilize the same Monopoly gameplay mechanics that have kept the game democratic for almost a century .
