On last night ’s Supernatural , called “ Mommy Dearest , ” one of the time of year ’s big spark descend to a puzzling conclusion . But whole new vistas of dark weirdness were opened up in the mental process . Plus , Jefferson Starship jest !

But first , a input on the episode bodily structure
Was it just me , or was this sequence structured in a in particular meandering way ? Supernatural is normally good with the storytime hook - and - switch , where you think you ’re plunge into one trope only to find yourself pleasingly transplanted into another . I kept waiting for the transplant bit , and there seemed to be several times that it almost befall – like when the brothers deliver the two small fry to their uncle , or when it turns out all the new monsters are get sick ( loved that fit with all the dead gearshift in the frat ) .
But we just kept sort of bollocks along , get in new scenario without tidying up after the old ones . What was up with the diseases ? Why does Eve need to make hybrid ? And what happened to all her previous minion ? Plus , the big reveal about Eve ’s plan left me muttering “ whut ? ” sad to gripe , because there was a lot I loved about this episode . It just feel random at times .
Hey , it ’s Amber Benson , the friendly lamia !
So Bobby and the Winchesters have their wizard genus Phoenix ash bullets , and they call up Cas to recover out where Eve is hiding out . Unfortunately his angel conjuring trick does n’t work on the female parent of all monster , so Cas has to do the teleportation thing and bring in the well-disposed lamia they fit who is trying to endure on soybean descent or whatever . They beg her for supporter settle Eve , and it turns out ( just as we suspect ) that every freak is tied to Eve psychically .
Good sometime Amber enunciates her elbow room through a few lines before break that Eve is in a small Oregon town . Then she beg for demise , which Cas happily dispenses when the brothers attempt to convince her to live . This is yet another sign that Cas is starting to go down the grim track , wipe out instead of saving .
A town of pathological Jefferson Starships
When Bobby , Cas and the Winchesters teleport to Oregon , they discover that Eve has been wandering around converting everybody into a new monster she ’s fix up – a combination lamia and wraith that Dean dubs a “ Jefferson Starship ” because they ’re “ bad and grueling to kill . ” The gamey point of the episode is pick up everybody call the monsters Jefferson Starships while hack their foreland off .
Other than their hybridity , there ’s another weird matter about the Jefferson Starships . After their behemoth conversion , they quickly choke of what seems to be flu . As I mentioned before , there ’s a fantastic scene where the Winchesters realize this after tracking one of the infected monsters back to his fraternity house – where all his roomy have turned into him and have conk out of monster influenza . This scene was also part of the discombobulation in the sequence , however , because they ’ve all turn into patient zero because they ’ve been turned into gearstick , not Jefferson Starships . It seems that Eve is experiment with turning people into dissimilar kinds of freak , but mostly Jefferson Starships .
Eventually the scoobies track Eve down to a local dining compartment , after Cas tortures the shit out of a demon - occupy or otherwise monstery sheriff . Love Cas with blood on his hands .
Eve ’s nefarious and puzzling programme
When the brothers take the air into the dining compartment with their phoenix ash gunman , of grade the first thing Eve does is have her minions take the artillery aside . And then she endeavor to explain her side of the narration to the brothers by translate into their mother , which – really ? I really like the actor who diddle Eve and would n’t have minded seeing her deliver these lines , plus the erstwhile “ teras / fiend trot out Mom ” plot is way of life overdone on Supernatural at this point .
But what Eve has to say is even more alarm - inducing than the Pretending To Be Mom figure of speech – and I do n’t imply in a estimable way .
So OK , here ’s what I get out of the confusing speech that Eve delivers . First she ask the comrade to join her quest to kill Crowley and they both say , “ Huh ? But he ’s dead . ” But no – he ’s not dead . Fine . I like that revelation . Then she says Crowley was just rest about wanting to take over the existent the three estates in Purgatory . Now I ’m feel the spoiled retcon tactile sensation .
Crowley ’s existent plan , according to Eve , was to vote out monsters , including her first born , for their soul . Because souls are Energy Department seed . Buh ? Why does n’t he just drink down multitude for their souls ? Plus , why would he want freak souls when they all go to Purgatory anyway ? So Eve ’s big programme was to defy Crowley by turning everybody in the world into monster so that he wo n’t get any of the soul he ’s trying to harvest . Buh wha ? Wait , so I thought he was on a pursuance to kill demon for their soul . Now she ’s making even more monster psyche ?
I do like the spot where she says she ’s been trying unlike beta versions of her “ make everybody in the creation into a monster ” formula , which is what stimulate the flu . But she ’s perfected the recipe in two young boys that the Brother rescued earlier in the instalment and birth to their uncle ( where they have promptly gone Jefferson Starship and start with the biting ) . Her recipe is bully , she says , because it creates quiet monsters who spread their monsterhood rapidly . Also , apparently , they ca n’t be detected by established Hunter means , which is why the brothers did n’t realise the kids were Starships .
That was too easy ! ! !
Despite Eve ’s seemingly good reason for require to turn everybody into Starships , and her collection to the boys ’ female parent love , the Mother Of All is n’t able to get the Winchesters to work for her . Dean is so noncompliant that he growl , “ Bite me ! ” Which of course she does , only to fall upon that Dean has been spiking his whiskey with genus Phoenix ashes ( I almost wrote “ verbena ” – been watching too much Vampire Diaries ) .
on the face of it one sip of Dean ’s phoenix blood is enough to off this monster who is so ancient and powerful that she can muffle Cas ’ power . There ’s a great death scene , with lots of uncanny tight - ups , and Eve disgorge up the living along with some green guck .
That was too promiscuous ! ! ! Seriously , that ’s how we get rid of the Big Bad who haunted the intact time of year ’s arc so far ? The ancient Mother Of All , whose villainous program were brewing for episode after episode , ostensibly about to establish to some captivating crescendo of mad monstery revelation ?
I object with hard mutter and much snarky fanwank !
And now it ’s time to litigate our feelings
Instead of a limited bonding moment between the Winchesters , we got a by - now - expected soldering minute between Crowley and Cas . After Eve dies , Cas flutters off to find Crowley , who has apparently been “ houseclean up ” after Cas . He offed the two Starship kids when they tried to spread monsterness , and apparently he ’s hanging around in a crew of the places where Eve kill people in town .
From what Crowley says , we harvest that he and Cas have been partner for a while – indeed , since before Cas “ kill ” the king of Hell , since the two of them obviously talk through one’s hat that death .
So Cas is working with Crowley to glean more souls for his warfare ? That ’s what it seems like . But I ’m still not understanding why they were aim monsters all this prison term .
Also , what are the monsters going to do now that their Mother is all in ? I guess they ’re in the same position as human being , since the human God has left the construction .
Basically this episode leave me really mixed-up and a bit let down . Eve fizzled out too easily , her architectural plan was too nonsensical in a show whose narrative arcs are commonly well - plot , and that meaninglessness spill over into the Cas / Crowley connexion . I hope we ’ll get to untangle some of this plot next week , when Crowley is back .
