The New York Times ’ David Pogue is sick and damned tired of wireless letter carrier wasting our time and our minute with their intentionally draw off out voice mail messages . And he want your help to get them to change .
You get it on the messages : “ At the tone , please record your content . When you have finished record , you may cling up , or press 1 for more selection . To bequeath a callback number , press 5 . ( Beep ) ” That ’s 15 endorsement that you owe every sentence you leave a voicemail . And it ’s just as high-risk when you check your voice mail . And the entire thing is a scam .
These trivial 15 - second waits tot up up – bigtime . If Verizon ’s 70 million client will or ascertain messages twice a weekday , Verizon rakes in about $ 620 million a year . That ’s your money . And your meter : three hour of your time a year , just sit around there listening to the same message over and over again every class .

In 2007 , I spoke at an international cellular group discussion in Italy . The openhanded cant was ARPU – Average Revenue Per User . The seminar all had titles like , “ Maximizing ARPU In a Digital Age . ” And yes , several attendee ( cellphone executives ) admitted to me , point - clean , that the voicemail instructions exist in the main to make you expend up airtime , thereby maximizing ARPU .
Well that ’s somewhat shitty ! So what to do ? Harass the hell out of your carrier and get them to throw in it . Pogue has links to places where you should yell at all four major carriers . Here they are :
Verizon : Post a complainthere .

AT&T : Send e - mail toMark Siegel , executive manager of media relations .
Sprint : brand a complainthere .
T - Mobile : Post a complainthere .

In the end , will it work ? Maybe . But you ca n’t advance if you do n’t play , and these are your overpriced minutes we ’re tattle about here . So I think you get it on what to do . [ Pogue ]
