If you ’ve been sadly struggle through Lost ’s final time of year of parallel - population folly , apparently you ’re not alone , judging from manufacturer Damon Lindelof’ssnarky tweeta while back . And he has a point , this is a “ shoulder strap in and take it on the chin ” kind of show , and that ’s why we mostly have intercourse it .
But we ’re still not so sure the alternate time bloodline where Flight 815 never crashed ( and the island go down ) was the correct way to go . Here ’s why .

What are we really learning from this parallel cosmos that is add to our enjoyment of the show ?
Jack is a sorry dad , like his dad ? We already knew that when he was a troubled fix , from the bewhiskered pill - popping days of yore . He could n’t even commit to Kate when he finally had her — he is a roll in the hay up that we continually find ourselves rout for , even when he continually disappoints . This has been established , I do n’t take a blinky naughty - eyed son to wrench more fellow feeling for Jack out of me . He ’s been doing this for age , without a son .
What about Kate ? Claire makes Kate a better someone ? That was established when she resolve to lift Aaron on her own , give him back to his female parent , and then go back to the island for the exclusive purpose of rescuing Claire so she could be with her Logos again . Still , it was Claire ’s child that made Kate step up . Sure she ’s not perfect , but the same could be articulate about bizarro Kate ’s moment of altruism , returning the bag of baby belongings to the stranded bizarro Claire . Kate ’s still a thief and mess up , but at least Claire forces Kate to think about others . You know : Shit we already knew .
Same move for Sayid . I call up that if I have to sit around through one more “ Sayid shinny with the evil inside of him ” flashback / flaunt forwards / flash sideways episode , I will yell . We know this already . He was a torturer , for god ’s rice beer . We get it — he does n’t wish kill , but thinks it ’s a necessary evil . That was established when he tortured Sawyer for an inhaler he did n’t have , roughed up Ben , went on a kill spree after his lover Nadia was murdered — hell , he even murdered the hell out of that chicken when he was a male child . We get it : Sayid stamp out to serve his own perverted reasoning , whatever that may be at the moment . We do n’t need a parallel story to demonstrate a fact we already have intercourse about this character . What ’s happening to him on the island , with the stabbing and feverishness , is much more interesting than relearning what we already knew . And that ’s saying something , because this whole “ evil disease ” McGuffin has get down to go .
The thing is , we ’ve learned nothing new or interesting about these case we ’ve known for year — nothing at all . It would be one thing if the case were wholly different citizenry after the secure landing , but they are n’t . While I entirely understand that the want of differences is interesting in its own right , it ’s boring as blaze to watch . I predict that bizarro Sun and bizarro Jin are still fighting , but he still loves her and struggles with just how to show it — you know , like in the entire first time of year .
Who Are These New People ? Oh Wait , It Does n’t Matter

Sure he ’s a rush - ass ninja , but were we sorry when he and his nerdy sidekick were savagely cut down by Sayid ? Nah , I had to see up their names to think back them . So , what was their function : to hand Sayid a magical dagger that did n’t act upon , or to sing about magical ash which we had already total to terms with ? Who are these hippie others and why should we like ? Well we should n’t , because they were all killed off this hebdomad by the fume teras .
By drop so much time re - read what we already knew in another world , we in turn spent too little time learning about these character and how they illuminated the mystery of the island . Not that we cared , because clear all these fiber did was talking in riddles and serve as a brutal example of Sayid ’s fall from saving grace .
The Shock And Awe of Parallel Whaaaaat ? ? ? Moments Have lose Their Luster
surely , we were all happy to see Martin Keamy ’s darn - eating smile again , but what was the item ? Same goes for Rose pop up at Hurley ’s temporary worker means . I think we all went , “ Hey , that ’s cool , ” but the enjoyment from these winky little fan nods lasts about as long as our laughter at a computed axial tomography fighting to get out of a box on Youtube .
Plus , they cheapen some of the past awesomeness these characters went through . countenance ’s not forget Keamy hit Ben ’s daughter in a pivotal , “ holy shit , Lost is awesome ” moment . watch him ask Sayid if he want eggs and then necessitate a bullet train to the chest is n’t rewarding , nor is it really as apologise as watching the green goddess fiend have his path with him after he ’s polish off Alex . Jin ’s triumphant , if not heavily predict , return key was a huge victory for confounded lovers . And watching these two keep miss each other , thanks to French farce - like time - warps and course in and out of synagogue doors has been a perpetual posture - on - the - sharpness - of - your - lounge conflict .
But now that we ’ve had to sit down through five retentive parallel universe episode , I ’ve completely forgotten about all the knockout body of work the writer did building up the tension between these two rattling characters . When Sun pop up with Lapidus , did anyone else say “ Ooooh yeah that whole thing ” ? It trivializes their struggle to find one another , and Sun has been shrink to standing around uselessly for too long now . I worry that the great reunification will be overshadowed with “ why is Jin in the freezer ? ” parallel plot points , when in realness all we want is to watch these two strive to be together again . It ’s been too long , and Jin saying “ Where is Sun ? ” is not rekindle that burning desire that both he and we , the TV audience , have had to see this twosome reunite . And this is just one of many spectacular payoff that are being watered down by excessive parallel - universe meanderings .
